Is Distance Education for Me?
Taking an online course requires just as much time and effort as a traditional on-campus course. Use these following statements to evaluate yourself to see if an online course is right for you.
-
My need to take this course is high, and I need it for a degree, job, or other important reason.
-
I regularly have at least 9 to 12 hours per week to spend on each course.
-
I enjoy working independently and do not need constant reassurance that I am doing my work correctly.
-
I can budget my time well and prioritize activities efficiently.
-
I am willing to take responsibility for getting the help I need with this course by contacting my instructor, my classmates, or the Online Education Support Specialist.
-
I look forward to learning new technology skills.
-
I enjoy learning by reading and consider myself a good reader.
-
I feel that high quality learning can take place without having face-to-face interaction.
-
When it comes to schoolwork and deadlines, I do not procrastinate.
-
I feel comfortable communicating using a keyboard.
-
I have (or will obtain) access to a reliable Internet-accessible computer.
-
My lifestyle (family, work, or personal schedule) makes it difficult for me to attend a traditional college course.
If you answered YES to the majority of the statements listed above, you may benefit from taking online courses at DATC.
