The College offers a program designed for high school students and adults that leads to certification as a Certified Nurse Assistant. Students are involved in hands-on care (clinicals) of the sick and the elderly in long-term care facilities. Nurse Assistants assist Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) and Registered Nurses (RN) in giving total bedside care. Training includes anatomy, physiology, medical terminology and clinical skills. Upon program completion, students take a state certification test. Once certified, students may gain employment in many health aide areas including hospitals, long-term care facilities, in-home care, physical therapy, and doctors' offices.

Certified Nurse Assisting Course (CNA)
The Certified Nurse Assisting course is 80 hours, with 16 hours of required practical training in a clinical setting. The student demonstrates knowledge while performing tasks under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or a Licensed Practical Nurse.
The Certified Nurse Assisting open-entry program is available through the Day and Extended Day program. Day programs are held August through May in conjunction with the public school schedule. High school students must schedule two high school class periods on A or B day to receive credit for this class. This course is also available during the evening. Call (801)593-2332 for details.
The Certified Nurse Assisting is an important part of the health care team directly involved with "hands-on" patient care. Certified Nurse Assistant Certification is required for nursing school applications at the Davis Applied Technology College and Weber State University.
Uniforms are required for work at the clinical sites. Students must purchase scrubs, name pin, and good supporting shoes (athletic type). These items must be purchased prior to the first clinical rotation. Without the regulation uniform, students will not be permitted to participate in clinical activities. Watches with a second hand and stethoscopes are recommended.
Certified Nurse Assisting Certification
Students have the opportunity to take the State Certified Nurse Assistant Certification Exam which includes a skills test and an online written exam. The cost for the test is $70 (certification costs are subject to change).
CPR Certification
This course is available at the College and is scheduled as needed throughout the year. It includes infant/child and one or two-man adult CPR. For additional information, call (801)593-2353.
Accreditation
The College's Certified Nurse Assisting program meets all Federal and State requirements, including the Nurse Aide Competency Evaluation Program (NACEP) and Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA).
