The Medical Transcription program is designed to provide instruction through a combination of in-class (open entry) and technology delivered courses to prepare for employment. Students complete courses in business, terminology, anatomy and physiology, diagnostic imaging procedures, and other medical processes. Job seekers interested in establishing an in-home service should anticipate a minimum period of one year of employment with a health services organization prior to purchasing in-home goals.

Certificate: Completers are eligible to receive a UCAT Certificate of Completion.

Other charges: $900 online course access fee and related online course costs

Program Admissions Requirements
Basic Skills Assessments:
Reading Comprehension: Minimum 10.3 grade level score (SDRT). Reading upgrades allowed on concurrent basis during on-campus course registration.

Math: Proficiencies at all basic levels (whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percents) desired. Concurrent math upgrades allowed with successful score in whole numbers proficiency during on-campus course registration.

Adult Students: Postsecondary transcripts, as alternate documentation, can be evaluated to determine if a waiver of all or part of admissions assessment requirements is permitted.

High School Students: This program is open to high school students. High school students must understand that the $900 online access fee is not tuition and, thus is not eligible for a fee waiver.

Associates Degree Requirements:
Students completing this course may qualify for two separate certifications.
*Those successfully completing only the Medical Transcription will receive a certification from Career Step, a nationally recognized curriculum developer and partner with DATC
*DATC can award a Certificate of Completion or a Certificate of Proficiency, state recognized institutional certificates, issued to those that complete an approved plan of training at the Applied Technology. Those certificates are awarded if all of the program proficiencies are completed and upon student request.
