SCHOOL OF SERVICE PROFESSIONS
PARAEDUCATOR
DATC Certificate of Proficiency Faculty Credentials
This program prepares individuals to work in schools as a paraeducator, or teacher's aide. Positions vary from reading and math tutoring to teaching computer or library skills in elementary schools. Paraeducators may work in special education classrooms or assist with instruction in gifted and talented programs. In all cases, the paraeducator is a valuable part of an educational team.
Students entering the Paraeducator Program must be able to pass an FBI criminal background check. The completed certificate qualifies under No Child Left Behind as a rigorous assessment in order to work in federally funded Title I schools and programs.
